App privacy policy
Effective 4 June 2026 · Sandyne desktop application
This policy explains what information the SANDYNE desktop application handles, how it's used, and the choices you have. It applies to the App distributed through the Microsoft Store and other channels. (Looking for how this website handles cookies? See the website privacy & cookies page.)
We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. The App does not track your activity for advertising, does not sell your data, and does not build behavioural profiles. Most of the App's functionality — recording, editing, mixing, instruments and effects — works fully offline and never sends anything off your device.
1. Information the App sends automatically
To keep the App up to date and functional, the App contacts our own servers at
api.sandyne.com for the following:
- Update checks. When checking for a new version, the App sends: the application name and version, release channel, operating system type and version, CPU architecture, your system locale, and a randomly generated installation ID.
- Installation ID. On first run the App generates a random
identifier (a UUID) and stores it locally on your device (e.g.
%APPDATA%\Sandyne\install_id.txton Windows). It is sent with update checks so we can count installations and updates. It is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identity, and we do not use it to track you across other apps or services. - In-app news. The App may request news/announcement content, sending the application name and version and the operating system type. Images referenced by news items may be downloaded for display.
2. Information you choose to send
The following only happen when you explicitly take an action:
- Crash reports (opt-in). If the App crashes, a dialog appears and you may choose to send a report. Nothing is sent unless you click to send it. A report may include the crash stack trace, application version, and basic system information including operating system, CPU, memory, computer name, and the logged-in user account name. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in any free-text you add.
- Feedback (opt-in). If you submit feedback, we receive your star rating, the text you write, and the application/operating-system version.
- Account and cloud features (opt-in). If you create an account or
sign in to use cloud sample/sharing features, we receive your email address and
password, or — if you choose "Sign in with Google" — the identity Google returns to
us. Sign-in uses a temporary local loopback address (
127.0.0.1) to complete the flow; we receive only a session token, not your Google password.
3. Optional offline processing (stem separation)
If you use the stem-separation feature, the App may perform a one-time download of open-source tools (the Python package installer and the PyTorch library) from their official distribution sites. This downloads software to your device; your audio is processed locally and is never uploaded.
4. Local network features (no internet)
The App includes an optional web/WebSocket remote-control interface (a browser mixer). When enabled, it is served only over your local network so you can control the App from another device on the same network. This data never leaves your local network and is not sent to us or any third party.
5. Data stored only on your device
The following are stored locally and never transmitted by us:
- Projects, recordings, exported audio, samples, and presets (in folders you choose, typically your Documents folder).
- App settings and preferences (e.g. audio/MIDI device choices, window layout) in your application-data folder.
- Logs and crash logs (e.g. in the application's data folder). These remain on your device unless you choose to send a crash report.
6. What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your real-world location.
- We do not access or upload your projects, audio, or files unless you explicitly use a cloud feature.
- We do not read your keystrokes outside of fields you type into (e.g. the feedback box).
- We do not use advertising identifiers or share data with advertisers.
7. How we use the information
We use the information above only to: deliver software updates and news, diagnose and fix crashes and bugs, respond to and improve based on feedback, and provide the optional account/cloud features you request. We do not sell personal information.
8. Data retention
Locally stored data remains until you delete it. Information you send us (crash reports, feedback, account data) is retained only as long as needed for the purposes above and to comply with legal obligations, then deleted or anonymised.
9. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g. the EU/EEA under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
11. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect data in transit (encrypted connections) and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your information.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above and posting the revised policy at this URL.
13. Contact
If you have questions or requests regarding this policy or your data, contact [email protected].
